Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ChargeMath (“we”, “us”, or the “site”) handles information when you visit this website. The short version: the calculators run entirely in your browser, we don’t ask you to create an account, and the values you type into a calculator are never sent to us.

Information you provide directly

The only time you actively share information with us is when you email us through our contact page. In that case, we receive whatever you choose to put in the email: your email address (so we can reply), your name if you sign it, and whatever message you wrote. We use this only to respond to you and do not share it.

Calculator inputs (battery sizes, dollar amounts, miles, electricity rates, etc.) are processed entirely in your browser and are not sent to us or stored anywhere.

Quote requests

Some calculator pages offer to connect you with local installers. That form is entirely optional — the calculator works identically whether you use it or ignore it, and nothing is submitted until you press the button yourself.

If you do submit it, we collect:

  • Your email address and zip code (required — installers are matched by service area)
  • Your name and phone number (optional — leave them blank and the request still works)
  • Which calculator you submitted from, and the campaign or referring site you arrived through

We use this only to pass your request to up to three local installers, exactly as the form says. We do not sell your details for any other purpose, we do not add you to a marketing list, and we do not share them with advertisers. Once an installer has your details, their own privacy policy governs what they do with them — ask them directly if you want that removed.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored by Buttondown, our newsletter provider. We keep no separate copy. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, we receive some basic technical data whenever you visit a page:

  • Server / CDN logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare logs your IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, and request time for security, performance, and abuse prevention. See Cloudflare’s own privacy policy for details on how it processes this data.
  • Aggregate analytics. We use Umami, a cookieless analytics tool, to count page views and see which calculators get used. It sets no cookies, stores no IP address, and builds no cross-site profile — there is nothing in it that identifies you, which is why this site shows no cookie banner.
  • Cookies. The site itself does not set first-party cookies. Third-party services we use (advertising, analytics) may set their own — see “Advertising” below.

Advertising

We display advertising on some pages to keep this site free to use. Our advertising partner is Google AdSense. Pages that offer installer quote requests do not load AdSense at all — you get one or the other, never both. Where AdSense does load, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites (interest-based advertising)
  • Limit the number of times you see an ad
  • Measure ad performance
  • Detect ad fraud

Data retention

Calculator inputs are not retained — they live only in your browser and disappear when you close the page. Email messages sent to us are retained as long as needed to respond and follow up. Quote requests are retained for up to 24 months so we can resolve disputes about who was contacted and when, then deleted; ask us sooner and we will delete yours on request. Newsletter subscriptions live with Buttondown until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained per Cloudflare’s standard retention periods. We do not build behavioural profiles or track you across sites.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to access — ask what personal data we have about you (in practice, usually just your email if you've contacted us).
  • Right to deletion — ask us to delete any personal data we have about you.
  • Right to object — opt out of certain processing, including personalised advertising (see “Advertising” above).
  • Right to portability — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.

Third-party links

This site links to other websites — manufacturer pages, IRS guidance, EPA fueleconomy.gov, charging network sites, etc. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites; review their own privacy policies before submitting information there.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we may have information from a child under 13, email us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS with modern transport encryption (HSTS enabled). Cloudflare provides DDoS protection and bot management. We never request passwords or financial information through the site — if any page appears to do so, it is a phishing attempt and not us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of the page, and where appropriate we'll note the nature of the change.
